Cape Garden Route

Itinerary

 

 

With its highly developed road infrastructure, freeway systems and well signposted byways, driving South Africa is a cinch. African Outposts will advise on the vehicle best suited to the tour you choose.

 

Day 1:
Arrive in Port Elizabeth. Collect hire car, drive to the Beach Hotel. Overnight at hotel (DBB)

Day 2:
Depart for Plettenberg Bay, Tsitsikamma and Knysna. Overnight at a small guest house or lodge.

Day 3:
Continue through Wilderness and George to Oudtshoorn, passing through the majestic Outeniqua Mountains. Overnight at a guest house.

Day 4:
Drive to Cape Town via Mossel Bay, Swellendam, the apple orchards of Grabouw and elevated views from Sir Lowrey's Pass. Overnight at a lodge or guest house.

Day 5:
Drop off hire car at Cape Town International Airport

Kruger National Park, Swaziland and Durban

Itinerary

Day 1:
Collect hire car, drive 550 km through Mpumalanga, via Lydenburg. The Drakensberg Mountains stretch away to the North West. Follow the signs to Sabi, north to Graskop and on to Pilgrim's Rest, a quaint, restored mining town. Drive to Kruger National Park, entering via Orpen Gate, where accommodation has been reserved for two nights at one of the rest camps.

Day 2:
Explore Kruger National Park at leisure. South of the Olifants River grazing herds of wildebeest, zebra, impala and buffalo can be found - lion and cheetah may also be spotted.

Day 3:
Depart Kruger National Park via Malelane Gate for a safari lodge. Enjoy a guided game drive in an open vehicle. Dine in the thatched dining room or under the stars around a fire. 
 

Day 4:
Early a morning game drive. Depart the lodge, head south to Swaziland; enter the kingdom at Jeppe's Reef border post. Drive to Foresters Arms Hotel. Visit the colourful market with a wide range of curios, in Mbabane, the capital.

DAY 5:
Drive through Swaziland, follow the Big Bend road on to the uSutu River, head south to the border at Lavumisa. Continue 90km to Hluhluwe Game Reserve, follow the R2 via Mkuze (320km). Overnight at Hilltop Camp.

Day 6:
Return from guided game drive, head south to Durban (280 Km). Accommodation is reserved at a beach hotel. Evening stroll along the city's famous beachfront.

Day 7:
Explore Durban before driving to the airport to drop off the hire car.
